| Caesars Head State Park to
Table Rock State Park |
This hike is a little different than most of the other hikes in our journal. This hike consists of multiple trails, including some of the trails that you will see reviewed on other pages. We began this hike at Caesars Head; more accurately from the Raven Cliff Falls parking lot, and hiked over a weekend to the Table Rock State Park. The specific trails involved (in order) are Raven Cliff Falls Trail, Gum Gap Trail, Foothills Trail-Caesars Head Spur, Foothills Trail, Pinnacle Mountain Trail and the Carrick Creek Trail. |

This hike follows some of the most beautiful and scenic sections of mountains in the upstate of SC. I would argue it would be tough to compare the beauty of Caesars Head and Table Rock with anywhere on the east coast.
But, there is a price to pay for that beauty, and that would be that this is a rather strenuous hike. The trails climb over the tallest 2 mountains in the state of SC (Sassafras and Pinnacle Mountains) as well as countless other less well known, but equally challenging mountains. |
| There are plenty of water sources along this hike, and we had no trouble finding camping spots when we wanted to stop. Keep in mind you can't camp inside the Mountain Bridge Wilderness boundary, so plan to hike at least 4 miles to get to the Watson-Cooper heritage preserve. Once there you will find a few nice
camping spots along the left of the trail.
Also, for a long part of the trail before you reach Sassafras Mountain you will be following the Greenville Watershed boundary, and you are not permitted to camp (or even trespass) on that property. |

You may have hiked up Sassafras mountain from the Table Rock SP side, but don't be fooled... the Caesars Head approach is not as easy. The hike up Pinnacle Mountain may be easier than the opposite direction, but it still can be challenging. All in all, this is a great hike for the more advanced hiker. |
